Taking a vacation to the mountains can be a great way to relax. The pristine air, the magnificent views—all of this can make your vacation enjoyable. Some people think that vacationing to the mountains is all about tents and log cabins, but there is so much more to do while vacationing in the mountains.
Camp
Most people rent a log cabin or stay in a hotel near the mountain, but you always have the option of actually camping in a tent in the mountains. Most mountains have commercialized sites that ensure your safety and provide you with amenities like community showers and grills. On the other hand, you can always opt to camp off site, but you will be required to bring all of your gear, and nobody can ensure your safety.
Hike
Most mountains have hiking paths that you can travel each day. Not only will this provide you with great exercise, but you will also get to see plants and animals you may not see anywhere else. Make sure to invest in comfortable shoes, plenty of water and a hiking stick or two. Some hiking trails also have fun things to do when you reach the end, such as a lake to swim in or a beautiful mountain view to take in.
Whitewater Rafting
If a mountain is nearby, you can rest assured that there will be a river running through it and a company offering whitewater rafting experiences. Different rivers have different difficulty levels, so you can enjoy the calming waters or take on the rougher ones.
Fish
Mountains have some of the best fish in their rivers and streams. Take advantage of the catch and go fishing. You can always catch and release, or you can take your fish back to your cabin or campsite and enjoy for dinner.
Ziplining
There are plenty of companies in the mountain offering zip lining. If flying across the woods of the ocean seems like something you would enjoy, find a company in the area that offers it. It will be a once in a lifetime experience.
Horseback Riding
Many companies in the mountains also offer horseback riding tours. These tours take you through designated trails in the mountains, and some may even take you on a tour of old communities or historical sites that are in the area.
Trolley/Train Rides
Like horseback riding, there are plenty of companies that offer train or trolley rides through the mountains. Some mountains even have ski lift tours that take you from the bottom to the top of the mountain. These tours will show you beautiful views while also showing you a bit of history about the town. Make sure to bring your camera.
Visiting the mountains can be a great experience. Not only will you view beautiful sights, but you’ll also have a vast array of activities to choose from. If you don’t feel like doing anything physical, you can always rent a cabin and relax amongst the beautiful scenic views.
